This floating-in-the-air experience seems to be gaining popularity. Let’s explore what is being described as an architecturally magnificent design concept currently taking hold in three cities of the world – London, Singapore and Surat (India).

1. London

A luxurious $1.6 billion apartment development project has been given the green light in central London. Developers plan to construct a transparent aquarium-like pool that will actually “hang” 10 stories above ground level. The concept has been designed to give swimmers the sensation of “floating through the air“. For the experience of enjoying a new type of sky diving, as well as swimming/floating in the sky, owners of the new apartments will pay handsomely. The smallest apartments could set them back approximately $1 million. But the cost will be worth the exhilarating feel that will accompany a float in mid-air while cooling off on a hot summer day.  Well, won’t it? Expect to move in to these luxurious apartments in 2018.

2. Singapore

Sky Habitat, due to be completed in 2016, consists of two tiered 38 storey towers. What is the most noteworthy feature of the twin apartment blocks? Yes, you’re right – a sky pool bridge. The luxurious 50-metre pool doesn’t boast a glass bottom as the London structure will. However, the uniqueness of the Sky Habitat’s pool lies in its ability to act as a bridge connecting two condo towers at the 38th level. For those not willing to venture into the elevated pool, you’ll be catered for too. A ground level pool will be constructed also.

If you want to enjoy amazing views of Singapore while swimming in a luxurious sky pool, this might be the place for you.

Do you have a head for heights?  You’ll need it, to venture into this sky pool. First, though, you’ll have to reside in one of the 509 apartments in the Sky Habitat complex.

3. Surat

India currently is constructing an entirely transparent sky pool as part of its five-tower Twilight Star development in Surat. (The port city of Surat is located in the western part of the Gulf of Bombay.) So what’s unique about this particular attraction? Well, it is 12 storeys up. However, its outstanding feature is the cantilevered design. The pool extends beyond the facade of the building so swimmers can definitely feel that they’re floating in mid-air. “There is no visual barrier between the edge of the pool and the city beyond.”

The sky pool’s glass bottom will add another luxury component to this already feature-filled residential project.

Are swimming pools that belong to the sky the design of the future?

Around the world can be found many interesting and daring balcony pools, infinity pools, glass-bottomed cantilevered pools jutting out from buildings, and a variety of hanging or suspended pools in the sky. All allow swimmers to be incorporated into the environment – that’s if you’re adventurous enough. Possibly the next design craze to sweep the world will be the fully transparent sky pool bridge. We have just seen artists’ impressions of several that are already under construction. Sky pool bridges will definitely incorporate character and decadence into future apartment complex living. However, users will require an audacious spirit. Will you be a sky pool fan of the future? Featured photo credit: Ballymore Group London via today.com
